Our commitment to safety/why it matters to us

SAFE PADDLING
HEALTHY KEYS

We take safety seriously so you can relax, explore, and enjoy the Florida Keys with confidence-while helping protect the waters we love.

Your Safety Is Our Priority

Before you head out on the water, we take a few extra steps to make sure you’re prepared and that we know who is out kayaking.

01

GROUP CHECK IN

Each group receives a whistle and numbered lanyard that matches their paperwork. We also collect a contact number and emergency contact before you leave.

02

PFDs For Everyone

Everyone is provided with a U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device (PFD), and children under 12 are required to always wear their life jacket.

03

Equipment Checked

Before launching, we check our kayaks and safety equipment to make sure everything is in good working order.

04

Conditions Monitored

We also keep an eye on wind, tides, and weather conditions throughout the day, including any approaching storms.

05

Map & Orientation

We’ll also give you a map and quick orientation before you head out, so you know where you’re going and what to look out for while you’re on the water.

Our job is to make sure you can relax, explore, and have a great time while feeling prepared and safe.

We take safety seriously so you can enjoy your day.

Care For Our Preserve

We’re lucky to have the Lignumvitae Key Aquatic Preserve right here in our backyard. It’s a beautiful place to paddle, and we all need to do our part to help keep it that way.

Protect the seagrass

Stay in deeper water when possible and avoid dragging your kayak or paddle through the seagrass.

Take your trash with you

Bring a bag for food, wrappers, and other trash. If you see floating trash along the way, please pick it up and bring it back with you.

Give wildlife space

Keep a safe distance from birds, nesting areas, manatees, and other wildlife.

Leave marine life IN PLACE

Please don’t take shells, sponges, starfish, or other marine life. They all play a part in the ecosystem.
